Raspberry Hercules: landing and care

The berry season is very transient, two or three weeks - and you have to wait another year for a new crop. To extend the season, the breeders brought out remontant raspberry varieties, which bear fruit several times, the first time at last year’s sprouts, the second time at the shoots that grew this season. One of these varieties is the raspberry "Hercules".

The raspberry variety "Hercules" was bred by domestic breeders. Recommended for cultivation in the Central region, but successfully grown in more southern and northern regions. Used for growing in private households and for industrial production.

The main advantages of this variety:

  • High yield;
  • Great taste;
  • Frost resistance;
  • Resistance to adverse weather conditions;
  • Resistance to dropping berries;
  • Fruiting on new shoots.

The raspberry berries of the Hercules variety are very large, weighing up to 12 grams, have a dense skin and small bones. Due to the density of the skin, they easily tolerate long-term transportation without losing the presentation.

Hercules raspberry bushes are average, up to 2 meters high. The branches are dense, strong, do not bend under the weight of the berries. Green branches are quite resistant to gusts of wind, stiffened last year's shoots can break off. Do not require a garter. The branches are densely covered with small spines. Up to 6 shoots are formed annually. The fruiting area takes up one third of the shoot.

Important! Raspberry bushes growing in partial shade can stretch out, the branches in this case are thinner and weaker. Such bushes necessarily need support.

Fruiting friendly, abundant. The first wave of fruiting is at the end of June, the berries are formed on last year's shoots. The second wave of fruiting occurs at the end of August or beginning of September, may continue until the first frost. The total number of berries reaches 1.5 kg. With a high level of agricultural technology, raspberry “Hercules” can produce up to 2 kg of berries from a bush.

For planting bushes raspberry "Hercules" is desirable to choose a well-lit, sheltered from the northern winds place. This raspberry can quite successfully bear fruit in shady areas, illuminated by direct sunlight only in the morning.

Raspberry bushes are planted in spring, before the formation of green buds, or in autumn, when raspberry bushes are already at rest.

For the cultivation of raspberry "Hercules" is important to take into account the characteristics of the soil. Raspberry bushes can successfully develop on all soils, except when depleted and having high acidity. Before planting raspberry bushes, depleted soils must be fertilized, and lime should be added to acidic soils to reduce acidity.

Before planting raspberry bushes, the soil is freed from perennial weeds, dug up and fertilized. Since raspberries without transplantation grow in one place for quite a long time, you can add long-lasting fertilizers. The dosage is determined according to the instructions.

Important! Raspberry "Hercules" is the aggressor, with time landing significantly spread in width.

To control the beds with raspberry bushes, you can dig a fence around the perimeter of the beds to a depth of 40 - 50 cm. The fence material must be dense enough to hold the roots of the raspberry. Sheets of old slate can be used.

The distance between the planting holes should be at least 65 cm. You can plant raspberry bushes in a single-line or two-line method. Between rows, you must leave a distance so that you can easily care for the bushes. As a rule, 80 to 90 cm is enough.

The root system at the raspberry is shallow, so the depth of the planting pit can be no more than 50 cm. Organic fertilizers, a glass of wood ash and 2 to 3 liters of humus are brought to the bottom of the planting pit.

Planted raspberry bushes are covered with soil and plentifully filled with water. After 2 - 3 days, watering is desirable to repeat.

Tip! Shrubs take root much better if they immediately begin to mulch after planting.

For these purposes it is very convenient to use old cardboard boxes. Cardboard covered with soil around planted raspberry bushes, sprinkled on top of a layer of earth.

The description of a raspberry of a grade of "Hercules" claims that it is undemanding, but to receive large, as on a photo of berry, it is necessary to put a little effort. Caring for the raspberry variety "Hercules" is watering, fertilizing, removing weeds, protecting the bushes from pests, timely harvesting.

Watering is carried out as needed, plentifully pouring bushes. If the soil around the bushes is covered with mulch material, the number of waterings can be reduced.

Important! A dense layer of mulching material must be wiped off from the bushes in the spring.

It can prevent young shoots from getting out of the ground.

Fertilization is necessary on nutrient-poor soils, the development of raspberries is difficult. The berries are shrinking, the bushes are developing poorly, often suffer from diseases and freezing in winter.

The first fertilization is carried out in the spring, before the first leaves appear on the bushes. During this period, the raspberry "Hercules" most of all need nitrogen and phosphorus to form green mass and shoots. Nutrients are brought into the circle in accordance with the instruction, they are dug in a little and the bushes are plentifully watered.

Important! Gardeners in the reviews about the raspberry "Hercules" do not recommend making large doses of fertilizers that contain nitrogen.

Overfed raspberry bushes bear poorly, fruiting begins much later.

The remarking of the raspberry variety "Hercules" can be used to get a larger crop at a time. To this end, in autumn, the sprouting shoots are cut at the root. The harvest of the next year will be formed on new shoots, the berries will be larger, their total weight will be higher. Fruiting raspberries in this case will begin in early or late August, depending on the region.

This method is also recommended for the northern regions, where the raspberry bushes “Hercules” can freeze and break in winter. In addition, the berries of the second wave of fruiting may not have time to ripen to frost.

Planting bushes raspberry varieties "Hercules" and care for them do not have much difficulty, to collect a rich harvest of fragrant berries, it is enough to give her a little attention and love.

Svetlana, 37 years old, Voronezh. I have been growing Hercules raspberries for several years, I like them. The first harvest is not very happy, the berry is often rather small, in winter many branches are broken off by the wind, therefore the fruiting is less. But the second - lovely sight, as in the photo in the magazine. The berries are large, hang on the branches with brushes. Up to 15 berries ripen simultaneously on one branch, we collect every other day. Children eat this raspberry only with sugar, they do not like a little sourness. And to me, on the contrary, that’s what I like about her. This raspberry should be sour. Viktoriya, 49 years old, Maikop. He planted raspberry varieties "Hercules" last year, this year brought the first harvest. The taste, of course, is average. But fruitful, juicy, small bones. I will not clean the bushes, leave it for jam and compotes. For food I will plant something more sweet and fragrant. Vladimir, 56, Saratov We have been growing the Hercules raspberry for several years. The first harvest of raspberries is exported to the market in June, the second - in September. They disassemble it quickly, so I can’t say how long it lays. But we transport normally, crumpled berries quite a bit. If you collect immediately in small containers for sale, not shifting, all the berries remain intact. Caring for the bushes is simple, we do not cut them and do not tie them up. Water, if necessary, fertilize three times - in the spring, before buds bloom, during the first and second flowering. We treat insects several times per season. Fungal diseases have never been. The yield from the bush did not measure, but clearly more than usual. I like this variety, not going to change.
